So Lana Del Rey announced a mini-film titled Tropico in July on her Twitter. Del Rey planned to include in the film the songs “Bel Air“, “Body Electric“, and “Gods and Monsters” taken from her latest release Paradise (Edition), an addition to/re-release of Born To Die, her debut album.
Now Tropico was said to be filmed in late June 2013 and directed by Anthony Mandler, who also directed Del Rey’s previous music videos for “National Anthem” and “Ride“. Del Rey has dropped several promo images for the mini-film, one depicting her in a cloak looking a lot like Mary, the Mother of Jesus. She also posted another of her holding a snake and posing as Eve, you know from Adam & Eve.
Skip ahead to July when Lana informed her fans that the film would premiere at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, referring to the short film as a “farewell“. Then in September 2013, Del Rey confirmed the song “Body Electric” would be the first song to play in the film, and it and would be released later in the month, which sadly didn’t happen.
We have no idea why that was the case, however on November 5, 2013, Lana uploaded a teaser for the film via YouTube, with only the details, Tropico – coming soon. Then a fan came for Lana for not setting a specific date… big mistake, Lana replied with “It’s coming, you little bitch“, YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! Put them in their place! Lana clarified later on that the editing took “forever” and that the film will finally be released in 2 weeks, we are looking at November 22.
