So today we decided to introduce you to an indie artist we are loving at the moment, Savannah Outen. Now this girl does mostly covers of Top 40 pop tracks on YouTube and these covers are amazing, but she has original works that needs a good look at by all of us.
Recently, Savannah released a track titled “Brave & True” for Music Is Medicine, in which all proceeds go to John’s Hopkins Children’s Research, be sure to grab it on iTunes here. It’s a nice piece of music and you can’t go wrong with purchasing music for charity folks!
The dilemma that happens to so many YouTube stars, is the transition from millions of YouTube views on the covers of Pop music they do and then getting that same love and following for their own original work. The shift doesn’t seem to happen so well. Time after time we watch the artist get signed to a label, produce their own work and then splat… they go no where and people don’t fall in love with their work like people seem to with their covers of major songs.
Savannah Outen, we hope, can break the cycle. When you watch her sing, she has that passion & soul you want to see in an artist. We are thinking a softer Christina Perri, with a voice that could easily slide onto many a country track or even along the lines of Sara Bareilles, with her uplifting original work. Can you hear the little bit of country twang Savannah has in her voice that we LOVE!
Below are some of Savannah’s covers that we felt capture her, but we still think a little more styling and branding, this girl will be a hot item.
